Egmond aan Zee

Where else can you find beach, sea and dunes combined with beautiful old woods in one place? Where can you walk and cycle through unspoilt nature, alternating at will with strolling, café terraces, sunbathing and fun shopping? Where can you find deep peace and quiet as easily as lively hustle and bustle and impressive art and culture so close together? The municipality of Bergen, with its villages Egmond aan Zee, Egmond aan den Hoef, Egmond Binnen and Bergen, has a lot to offer today's tourist.
Today's holidaymaker wants variety and that's what the municipality of Bergen has to offer: the former fishing village of Egmond aan Zee with its cosy beach, pavement cafes and shops; the art village of Bergen with a lot of art and culture and for those seeking peace and quiet: Schoorl with a much quieter beach and beautiful forests and dunes. Three cores each with their own identity.

Egmond aan Zee is traditionally a fishing village. It is a village located in the middle of the dunes and right by the sea. This makes Egmond aan Zee a paradise for sun worshippers, walkers and cyclists. Those who have been to Egmond once will return there again. The Jan van Speijk lighthouse, with its striking white exterior, keeps a watchful eye over the sea and the village. The seaside resort of Egmond aan Zee, which borders the North Holland Dune Reserve, is especially popular with people who love conviviality. Of the varied choice in restaurants, beach pavilions and surprising shops. Of strolling along the long rows of terraces, and of people-watching from behind a large coupe of ice cream. Stroll past the shops and terraces to the lighthouse and promenade and watch the sun sink into the sea. Wander over the sea strip to one of the sheltered sandy paths in the surrounding dune area and find your way back.

Even in high season, the peace and quiet of the dunes is never far away and during all seasons you can enjoy a lovely weekend break or a whole week of relaxation or exertion in our cosy village. Egmond aan Zee is best known for its freely accessible beach everywhere. The sandy beach is certainly one of the most beautiful in the Netherlands and forms a natural whole with the village. The air here is wonderfully pure and the sun often shines.

There is also plenty to experience in terms of cultural history in the Egmond area. Like the Egmond Museum, the ruins and the Castle Chapel in Egmond aan den Hoef and the Abbey in Egmond-Binnen. Not to mention the bulb fields in spring.

From time immemorial, Egmond aan Zee has fought against the water. Over the centuries, parts of the village regularly disappeared into the sea, as in the 18th century. However, the sea also brought much prosperity, as the inhabitants earned their living mainly from fishing. Much is still reminiscent of the fishing past, such as the fishermen's cottages and the fishermen's monument. The Prince Henry Foundation is a striking building and was originally a shelter for former seamen. The Museum van Egmond gives an idea of its history. The village walk (available at the VVV) also gives a picture of the past. Prominent on the promenade are two more buildings related to the sea: the Jan van Speijk lighthouse and the Royal Dutch Lifeboat Company's boathouse. Both can be visited on Friday evenings in summer.

    “Ideale Lage und sehr Hundefreundlich.

    Pro:

Positiv: Alles da was man brauchte.
