“The area of the seven bays is a beautiful part of the country, with outstanding beaches and opportunities for lovely walks. In Padstow itself, we found the main harbour and shopping area very crowded in August, but it is easy to walk beyond the town along the river estuary to find quieter areas. Rick Stein's fish 'empire' seems to dominate the restaurants available which can be expensive, but there are other simpler cafes and takeaways, such as a pasty bakery, pubs and tea rooms. As we were self-catering we found the large Tesco supermarket on the western edge of town very useful. Note that the car park at the harbour would not take cards, only cash, so go prepared with pound coins as none of the shops will give change for the car parks!”
