Enjoy historic Greece with a holiday home on the Olympic Riviera

The Olympic Riviera in Greece is not a resort but a continuous 70 km long stretch of coastline that lies at the foot of Mount Olympus, the mythological home of the Gods. The island of Thessaloniki is less than an hour away and holiday homes, holiday houses, holiday apartments and holiday rentals in the Olympic Riviera are popular destinations for family holidays.

The wonders of the Aegean Sea

The Olympic Riviera's best known resorts include Paralia Panteleymonas, Leptokarya, Korinos, Makriyalos, Methoni, Nei Pori, Olympiaki Akti, Paralia Skotinis and Platamonas. Sheltered by Mount Olympus, the region benefits from a balmy climate that is pleasurable for swimming. Winters too are pleasant and the gently sloping sandy beaches are perfect for families with children. Underwater diving centres do brisk business in the region, as travellers try their hand at exploring the secrets of the Aegean. Snorkelling, fishing, mountain biking and hiking are popular activities and equipment is easy to rent.

Greek tradition and culture at its best

The fascinating Greek culture permeates every inch of the coastline from its ancient fishing villages and architecture to its traditional tavernas and friendly locals. Excursions to the party island of Thessaloniki and the 11th century Macedonia Meteora Monasteries, which were first inhabited by Byzantine hermits, as well as the Castle of Platamon are amongst the region's most popular attractions. Held sacred by the ancient Macedonians, the village of Dion is home to ancient temples dedicated to Zeus, Demeter and Isis as well as an archaeological museum full of historic Roman and Greek artefacts. For those wishing to scale Mount Olympus, almost all climbing routes begin to the southwest of the town of Litochoro which is filled with pretty tavernas and cafes. By way of contrast, the modern town of Katerini is packed during summer when Greek and international visitors, drawn by the region's wealth of culture and benign climate, book their holiday houses, holiday rentals and holiday apartments months in advance.
