Thiviers is known as the capital of Foie Gras, a delicious speciality of the region and not to be missed.A Regional highlight is the beautiful town of Brantome (27km) and its Benedictine abbey, built by Charlemagne in 769. Here you can hire a canoe (book in advance) and enjoy this lovely stretch of the river. There is a busy outdoor market on Fridays.Near to Brantome is the "most beautiful village" of St-Jean-de Cole and also the attractive village of Bourdeilles.Nearby Chateaux include the Chateau de Jumilhac, the Chateau de Bourdeilles, and Chateau de Puyguilhem.On the outskirts of Perigueux at Trélissac (29km) there are Hypermarkets (eg. LeClerc) and shopping precincts.
